Helpful Tips
Helping you save energy is important to us. To help you use less power, here are some helpful tips that you can easily implement. As always, use less energy whenever possible.
Lights Out Turning off lights when not in use is one of the easiest ways to save electricity. Turn off your office lights if you plan on leaving your room for more than 10 to 15 minutes. As well make better lighting choices such as using compact fluorescent bulbs than incandescent bulbs, use task rather than general lighting, and make the most out of natural lighting.
Computers Turn off your computer and all of its peripherals overnight and on weekends. You should also turn off your monitor if you are not planning on using your computer for a long period of time. (Monitors themselves consume more energy than PCs). Screen savers do not save electricity, as they require the monitor to be active. Use your computer's power management capabilities to turn off your monitor after a certain set time.
Photocopiers and Printers It is advisable that office machines be completely turned off overnight and during the weekends. Photocopiers and printers should only be turned on when being used, and should be turned off the rest of the time. When choosing a printer, make sure it has power management capabilities. And remember to never plug your copier or laser printers into a "UPS", unles there is plenty of capacity on the UPS for large loads). |
